Adaptec Strengthens Storage Market Leadership with New Products for Entry and Mid-Range Servers
Adaptec Combines Proven Ultra160 SCSI Technology, Interoperability and Global Support to Offer Industry's Most Compelling RAID Solutions
New RAID Solutions Sets New Standard for Storage by Offering High Performance, Fault-Tolerance, Compatibility and Reliability at Low Price
Adaptec Inc. (NASDAQ:ADPT), the global leader in innovative storage solutions, today strengthened its lead in the RAID market by unveiling three powerful new, microprocessor-based Ultra160 SCSI RAID controllers for entry- and mid-range servers.
The new offerings include two robust 64-bit Ultra160 SCSI RAID controllers, the Adaptec SCSI RAID 3200S and 3400S, that feature a ¾-size form factor, and come in two- and four-channel versions, respectively, and the Adaptec SCSI RAID 2100S, a half-size, single channel Ultra160 RAID controller. All three products are based on Adaptec's proven Ultra160 SCSI technology.
With these additions to its product portfolio, Adaptec now delivers the most complete line of RAID products in the industry, from low- to high-end server offerings, and the broadest choice of interfaces, including ATA/UDMA, SCSI and Fibre Channel.
"The Internet and e-commerce are driving an unprecedented increase in data requirements and overloading entry and mid-range servers in Asia Pacific," said Kym Perry, Sales Manager -- APAC region at Adaptec. "With affordable single- or multi-channel Ultra160 SCSI RAID controllers from Adaptec on their servers, companies and organizations now have reliable, high-performance data protection solutions that support critical business applications", he added.
"IDC is projecting the entry server segment to provide the fastest growth opportunity for RAID, with market penetration expected to increase from 15 to 35 percent within the next two years," said Robert Gray, research director, storage systems, at IDC. "These new products from Adaptec are timely, and we believe the company is well-positioned to extend its presence in this market, given its leadership in SCSI and RAID and unparalleled channel strength", he further added.
Three New Robust Microprocessor-Based Controllers
Adaptec's new SCSI RAID controllers are based on Adaptec's award-winning Trident II Ultra160 SCSI chip, known for its uncompromised reliability and performance. Advanced RAID features offered by the controllers include online capacity expansion, background initialization and predictive caching. These controllers also support all major server operating systems, including Windows 95/98, NT/2000, Linux, NetWare, Unix and more.
Adaptec SCSI RAID 3200S
Adaptec's SCSI RAID 3200S is a two-channel controller that provides maximum performance and expandability for today's mid-range, conventional and 2U rack-mount server environments, where performance is paramount but cost is a consideration.
