Oracle and PTC Announce Strategic Partnership and Deliver a Powerful Collaborative Product Development Solution

Industry Leaders Join Forces to Provide Exchange Solutions that Streamline Collaborative Product Development of Highly Engineered Parts

    Bangalore, October 16, 2000

Oracle Corporation (Nasdaq: ORCL), the largest provider of software for e-business, and PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), a leading provider of Internet solutions for manufacturing product development, announced today that they have joined forces to deliver an integrated collaborative product commerce (CPC) solution. Now available, OracleÒ Product Development Exchange leverages Internet technologies to unlock the enormous potential for streamlining the product development process. PTC's Windchill for Oracle Product Development Exchange package complements Oracle Product Development Exchange with Internet-based design and engineering management solutions to support the collaborative design of highly engineered products. The combined Oracle and PTC solution enables manufacturers to be more competitive by leveraging the technologies and expertise of their business partners through outsourcing of design, development, and production activities.

Windchill for Oracle Product Development Exchange handles upstream, work-in-process engineering activities for Oracle Product Development Exchange users with sophisticated engineering tools: CAD data management, 3D visualization and markup, digital mockup and the InPart content library, a comprehensive mechanical parts catalog. This new Web-based CPC solution will be hosted on the Oracle Exchange platform to interface seamlessly with and add value to Oracle Product Development Exchange, as well as the Oracle Exchange Marketplace and Oracle Supply Chain Exchange.

The combined CPC solution from PTC and Oracle addresses the broad e-business opportunity to integrate collaborative development and direct procurement of both commodity and design-to-order products. "Exchanges that are focused solely on simple buy/sell transaction services for commodity goods offer a limited proposition," commented Aberdeen Research Director, Jack Maynard.  "The combination of Oracle Product Development Exchange and Windchill for Oracle Product Development Exchange gives exchanges the opportunity to move to the next step and competitively differentiate themselves by providing value-added collaborative product development services."

"The joint Oracle and PTC solution will allow companies to collaborate effectively with their ever-growing team of globally and organizationally distributed customers, suppliers, and business partners," said Anthony P. DiBona, executive vice president of Global Business Partnerships for PTC. "Companies that effectively manage their distributed 'design chains' are better positioned to quickly and profitably build and deliver the innovative products and services that satisfy their customers' demands."

"Oracle's new Product Development Exchange solution, combined with the engineering management capabilities of Windchill for Oracle Product Development Exchange, provides the manufacturing industry with a deep collaborative product development solution that complements Oracle's current enterprise and exchange offerings," said Ron Wohl, executive vice president, Applications Development, Oracle Corp. "The result is a powerful joint solution that shares a single, consistent, Oracle-based architecture and addresses the full range of B2B processes related to supply chain management, collaborative product development and global procurement."

The strategic agreement between Oracle and PTC, which spans product integration as well as joint sales and marketing, will enable the two companies to provide the most comprehensive solution for enterprises and private and public exchanges within the manufacturing industry.
